Great taste, but Way darker than depicted.
I’ve subscribed to this product and have received 5 separate packages of it so far, and while it has great flavor and I intend to continue using it, I feel like there is a mixup in the product page and that which is being shipped, as the “shiro miso” packets I’ve received have varied in color from a rust red to a dark brick red/brown, no where near the light yellow/khaki sort of color depicted in the images. It makes me wonder if the recipes I’ve cooked that call for shiro miso have been made with a different type of miso.

Deceptive Marketing: Made in CHINA
The same thing has happened to us on Amazon--a FOOD item is advertised as being wholesome and recommended and when you receive it, you find out it was made in CHINA. If the item stated it was made in China, then you could use your own judgment before buying it. But this particular item is deceptively covered in Japanese writing (I read some Japanese--that IS hiragana on the container), then you are innocent in believing it is made in Japan. We recently bought some chicken jerky dog treats on Amazon with no mention of where they were made and when we received them, we learned they were made in China. (Remember the 2014 made in China dog treats that contained melamine and killed dogs in the US?) Potentially, that was our fault for not reading the label. In THIS case, though, the marketing is deliberately deceptive. Japanese writing on a Chinese product? Lastly, I lived in Japan and have been using miso products made in Japan for decades. This Chinese miso is sub-par--overly saltly and lacking in complexity. Advertised as "white miso," this is most certainly NOT white miso. The item's also non-refundable. Which means that you have to go into a complaint chat session in order to get your money back--not easy and it takes time--but it can be done. I will be throwing this Chinese miso out when my Japanese miso arrives and I will also be much more careful when ordering items to make sure I know where they are made.
