A Book for all bag makers
Occasion BagsByDebbie ShoreAs an avid bag maker for many years, I was extremely interested to read the new ‘Occasion Bags’ by Debbie Shore. What I really liked were the numerous amounts of high-quality photographs. The book has been laid out in such a way that it makes for pleasurable reading and understanding. I love the plastic templates that are included in the book, they are both durable and versatile.Debbie explains how to use the templates as there are so many bags that can be made from each template. I cannot wait to try these out myself. There is a highly informative chapter on fabrics and interfacings. When I first started bag making, interfacing could become a minefield with so many to choose from. This book would have been invaluable then as it now.For a beginner bagmaker this book will be an ideal reference book and will be a ‘go to.’It clearly lays out most tools needed for any new bagmaker. But it also includes hardware and techniques for the more advanced bagmaker. With all Debbie’s books I love her ‘top-tips.’Because each bag design has been clearly written along with all the relevant photographs it makes it an easy bag pattern to follow. As a bag pattern designer, I love to encourage people to make patterns their own and this book has done just that. Debbie has shown lots of different patterns in the book, but they can be easily customised to make them unique.I particularly liked the shape and style of the curved flap handbag and will be giving this one a try. This book is priced at £14.99 and is extremely excellent value. The quality of the paper and print is of the highest quality too.As we are nearing Christmas, this would be an ideal book for anyone who loves bagmaking either beginners or the more experienced.

Practical re-useable templates lead to great results
This book is a reprint from Debbie Shore’s Build a Bag book series. This reprint is in paperback but takes nothing away from the quality of the book. The back cover is a sleeve for holding the two pattern templates that accompany the instructions, which makes the book a good size to work from. The font is crisp and clear and the step-by-step instructions each have light bright photographs. This Build a Bag Book covers Occasion Bags and the variations provides for 15 projects. So the user can either follow Debbie’s illustrative instructions to create the lovely bags in the book, or you can use the book as a platform to fire up your imagination and make your own small clutch bag using the templates. .The plastic templates are re-useable and make it so easy to cut out perfect identical shapes for a bag project. Also with the templates you can easily create a paper pattern if you wish to change the size of a bag pattern. Each project lists exactly what you will need and the photographs let you know what you are working towards, making for a pleasant sewing experience and the ability to achieve first rate results. The book has sections to help with understanding and using the templates, types of materials to use and sewing tools needed along with information on techniques, bag hardware, piping, installing a zipped pocket, and some of Debbie Shore’s top tips. All useful info not just for the patterns in the book but general sewing too.

As per all of Debbie’s book this one is full of photographs and clear instructions with top tips for bag makers of all levels. Each of the bag styles can be adapted and personalised to allow you to be really creative. Or for the beginners or less creative you can use Debbie’s suggestions and top tips. The back of the book has plastic templates, which are durable and can be used over and over again to make a bag to match any outfit for any occasion. The book also includes useful information on fabrics and bag hardware and interfacing types so a beginner can get equipped to start their bag making journey. This book price of £14.99 is great value given the number of different bags and patterns that can be made. The book feels good quality with clear print and photographs.I will be trying out some of these bags for everyday use to special occasions.

Fabulous book
I can't praise Debbie Shore's books enough and this one does not disappoint. A fabulous collection of 15 bags with an ingenious template included that can be used over and over again. The illustrations support the instructions, which are clearly written and easy to follow, making the whole process of bag making a joy. The only problem I have... is which one to make first as they are all gorgeous. If you are debating whether to buy this book or not then definitely go for it, as I'm sure it will become invaluable to you. Thanks to Debbie and team for another fantastic book.

Occasion Bags... build a bag book
I have taken and extensive look into the book. It has a wide variety of bags that look fairly interesting. I am really interested in making bags or pouches for my knitting. I think there is a tote bag as well. There are acetate sheets with bag patterns on them. This makes things very easy for me as I can cut out what I need and just stitch them up quite easily. Some of the pouches have zippers in the them which make them especially useful to knitter/crafters with cats as they can't get into them to play with the wool. That alone makes me happy.
