THE RESURRECTION FROM ANOTHER VIEWPOINT
I ordered this film for Easter viewing and it arrived on Holy Saturday. Perfect timing. We watched it on Easter Sunday appropriately.A different perspective on a well known set of events surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus, told from the point of view of the Roman Tribune, ordered to oversee events and ensure that Jesus was actually dead. From the beginning the 'edge' was apparent. We viewed the resurrection from all sides.. The Sanhedrin wanted to hang on to their own power and control of the people and wanted rid of Jesus permanently, even after death. Pontius Pilate wanted to quel rebellion and save face in the eyes of the visiting Emporer. The disciples were scared of both sets of authorities. This was not a Holywood blockbuster but was gripping viewing.Great musical score that really underline the tension throughout.

A very interesting and enjoyable movie
I was very pleasantly suprised by this movie.Normally movies that deal with Jesus or the early church go in two equally unexciting directions .They are far too earnest or far too sceptical .This is clearly a story that takes the gospel acts seriously and yet is also well grounded in historical facts and contexts. Its the first movie ,,either Christian or secular that has touched on the beliefs and religious practices of the gentiles/pagans involved in the story and I thought that was a nice touch. The story line is quite interesting and using the idea of the main character investigating the resurrection as an actual crime ,ie taking the original accusation of the officials that the body had been stolen as true was very interesting.I really liked several scenes that were amusing and also several which were quite moving.I also liked that they showed the practicalities of life, and contrasted them with the different cultures and classes .It was well acted and I have read that the actor playing Jesus put a great deal into the role,he stayed apart from the rest of the cast and didnt speak to the lead character until they speak for the first time on film .This is very clever because of the premise of the movie ,there was a lot done behind the scenes to help the relationships you see on scene seem genuine .I am trying to avoid spoilers, but for anyone who is a bit concerned of the possible lack of biblical accuracy to the latter pivotal part of the movie theres many bible verses that describe Jesus appearing to many people other than the disciples and close friends ,one account says he appeared to 500 people, not of all of whom were fully fledged believers beforehand ,this is also the first film that has addressed these accounts, even quite fundamentalist christian movies shy away from it

I liked it!
I am not a religious person in any way, shape or form - but I do like a good film!Primarily on the recommendation of a couple of friends whose taste I trust, I purchased this blu-ray, and I have to say this was certainly one of my better purchases.Well made, good performances, and strangely atmospheric. Obviously a marvellous story to tackle, but also an intelligent script which makes such a change from the utter dross constantly turned out.I liked the film, so I can only thoroughly recommend it to all.

Excellent for those interested in the life of Jesus and his first disciples.
Decided to purchase following seeing half of the film on the television. It gives a very interesting perspective of the circumstances the that Roman Governor finds himself in, when the Jewish Leaders demand the 'body of Jesus' following his resurrection. It is extrelmely well produced, and the actors and actresses play excellent roles of the charactors known by Jesus, and interviewed by the 'Roman Officials.' It portrays the culture, political pressures, and the attitudes to the Roman Occupation of the times

Great film!
Fantastic film, really brought the presence of God into the living room!!! Gone are the days of the rubbish Christian film, with tip actors and scripts, nothing cringe about them today!! Well - not this one anyway!!!

Excellent DVD that has its focus on the Centurion at the crucifixion.
Really enjoyed this DVD which focuses on the centurion who witnessed the crucifixion. Excellent dramatisation and a great message of faith and love. I'm a bit of a Classical History fan so can be a bit critical of films of the period but I really enjoyed what is a powerful message of hope.

The most believable film on the Dawn of Christianity I have ever seen!
I do not identify myself as a Christian per se, however this film really moved me. I have to say it is the most believable film depicting the Dawn of Christianity that I have ever seen. It felt like a mixture of a "crime investigation" mixed with "documentary" and "historical dramatisation". It felt, for me as close to the truth of the events that we can recreate without being there. The subtle and realistic handling of the miracles was perfect. No Hollywood CGI razzmatazz!. The correct pronunciation of names was refreshing and a little confusing at first. Jesus being played by a non Caucasian perfect!. The politics of that time and the power struggles all felt akin to all those that have happened down through the centuries. What struck me most was the real message of love that I believe is at the heart of true Christianity. The way the Actors portrayed this is to be applauded.I will be pondering the content of this film for some time.
